Creating & Configuring Your Community
Ready to launch your own community? This guide walks you through everything from creation to fine-tuning your settings.
Step 1: Create Your Community
After signing up at outpost.ninja, click Create Community from your dashboard. You'll need:
- Community Name — Choose something memorable
- Slug — This becomes your URL:
yourslug.outpost.ninja - Description — Tell people what your community is about
Step 2: Configure Visibility
In Admin Settings, you can control who sees your community:
| Setting | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Public | Anyone can browse and join |
| Private | Only members can see content |
| Invite Only | Requires an invite link to join |
Step 3: Set Up Categories
Categories organize your discussions into logical groups. Head to Admin → Categories to:
- Create categories with custom names and colors
- Drag and drop to reorder them
- Add descriptions to guide members
Pro tip: Start with 3-5 categories. You can always add more as your community grows.
Step 4: Create Tags
Tags provide cross-cutting labels that work alongside categories. In Admin → Tags, create tags for common themes your community discusses.
Step 5: Invite Your Team
Go to Admin → Members to invite people:
- Email invites — Send directly to specific people
- Invite links — Share a URL with an expiration date and usage limit
- Role assignment — Set members as admin, moderator, or member right from the invite
