Dark mode tip: set your accent color to something bright

Quick design tip for anyone running a dark-mode-first community: bump your accent color brightness way up.

The default accent colors that look great on light backgrounds get muddy on dark. We switched from a standard blue to a brighter electric blue and the whole community feels more alive.

YES. This is design 101 but so many communities get it wrong. Dark backgrounds eat contrast. Brighter accents = better readability AND it looks more premium.

just tried this on ours and it's a massive improvement. went from "kinda hard to read" to "oh this is nice". thanks for the specific hex values too, saved me 20 min of tweaking.

Also worth noting: the accent color affects the email digest and notification emails too. So make sure it looks good on both dark AND the white email background. I use the theme preview + send myself a test email to check both.

Our community is light mode but we support dark mode for users who prefer it. The trick for us was picking an accent that works on both — ended up with a saturated teal (#14B8A6) that reads well on light and dark.
