Outpost Community Demo

Hey! Full-stack dev building a community for our dev tools startup

By codewitch ·

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah, full-stack developer at a small dev tools startup (8 people). We're building a community for our users — about 2,000 active developers using our CLI tool.

We chose Outpost because:

  • Embed support — our community lives inside our docs site, not on a separate domain
  • API-first — we want to auto-create topics from GitHub issues and sync discussions back
  • Price — Circle was going to cost us $89/mo for what we need, Outpost does it for $29

Excited to learn from how others are using the platform. If anyone has tips for developer-focused communities specifically, I'm all ears!

Welcome Sarah! Developer communities are my thing. Biggest tip: make sure your community adds value beyond what GitHub Issues/Discussions already provides. For us, that meant focusing on long-form guides, architectural discussions, and "show what you built" content that doesn't fit in an issue.

Welcome! The GitHub Issues → Outpost sync sounds really interesting. We did something similar with Linear. The webhook + API combo makes it pretty straightforward. Happy to share our setup if you want to DM.

Thanks both! Marcus that's a great point — we were thinking of just mirroring GitHub issues but that's duplicating not adding value. Love the idea of focusing on content that doesn't fit in issues.

Elena — would love to see your Linear setup! Will DM you.
