We've been running our fintech community on Outpost for about 2 months now. Hit 500 members last week and wanted to share our moderation setup in case it helps anyone scaling up.
Team:
- 1 community manager (me)
- 2 volunteer moderators (power users we promoted)
- AI moderation as the first filter
Workflow:
- AI moderation flags potential issues → goes to flag queue
- Mods review the queue 2x/day (morning + evening)
- Obvious spam gets hidden immediately
- Borderline stuff gets discussed in our private mod channel before action
- Any bans or suspensions require 2 mod approvals
Settings that saved us:
- Slow mode (60sec) on our General category — prevents flame wars
- New members' first 3 posts go to the flag queue automatically
- AI moderation set to "flag only" not "auto-hide" — we trust but verify
- Shadow banning for persistent trolls (they think they're posting but nobody sees it)
What I'd love to see added:
- Mod-only notes on user profiles (like "warned about spam on 3/15")
- Canned responses for common moderation actions
- A mod queue mobile view (the flag queue is desktop-only right now)
