Moderation Tools: Keeping Your Community Safe
A thriving community needs effective moderation. Outpost provides a comprehensive toolkit that combines human oversight with AI-powered automation.
Role-Based Permissions
Outpost has four member roles, each with increasing permissions:

| Member | Post, reply, react, bookmark, report content |
| Moderator | All member actions + pin/lock/archive topics, manage flags, create polls, suspend users |
| Admin | All mod actions + manage categories, tags, members, branding, email |
| Owner | All admin actions + manage API keys, delete community |
Content Reporting (Flags)
Any member can flag content they find problematic:
- Click the flag icon on any post or topic
- Select a reason category
- Add an optional description
- The flag appears in the Moderation Queue
Moderators can then resolve or reject each flag with full audit tracking.
User Management
When members break the rules, moderators have options:
- Suspend — Temporary ban with a set duration (auto-expires)
- Ban — Permanent removal from the community
- IP Ban — Block specific IP addresses or ranges, with optional expiration
All actions are logged in the Mod Action Log with who did what and why.
AI Auto-Moderation
This is where Outpost gets smart. Enable AI moderation to automatically scan content for:
- Spam — Repetitive or promotional content
- Self-promotion — Excessive self-linking
- Malicious content — Harmful links or instructions
- Harassment — Personal attacks or bullying
- NSFW — Adult or inappropriate content
- Misinformation — Demonstrably false claims
Each category can be toggled independently. Flagged content goes to the moderation queue for human review — the AI flags, humans decide.
Topic Controls
Moderators can manage individual topics:
- Pin — Stick a topic to the top of the category or community
- Lock — Prevent new replies while keeping the topic visible
- Archive — Hide the topic from the main feed while preserving it
- Move — Relocate a topic to a different category
The Moderation Dashboard
Access everything from Admin → Moderation:
- Review queue with pending flags
- User management with suspension/ban controls
- IP ban list
- Full audit trail of all moderation actions
