2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the platform
  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • Deliver notifications, email digests, and broadcasts you've opted into

  • Community Visibility � Your username, display name, avatar, and content you post are visible to other community members (or the public, for public communities). Direct messages are only visible to participants.
  • Community Admins � Community owners and admins can see member lists, aggregated analytics, and moderation logs. They do not have access to your email address unless you share it publicly.
  • Service Providers � We use third-party services for email delivery (Resend), file storage (S3-compatible), and payment processing. These providers only receive the minimum data necessary to perform their services.
  • Legal Requirements � We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental request.
  • Safety � We may share information to prevent harm, investigate violations, or protect our rights.

4. Data Storage & Security

  • Your data is stored on secured servers with encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Passwords are never stored � we use passwordless magic link authentication
  • API keys are hashed before storage
  • We implement rate limiting, CSRF protection, IP banning, and other security measures
  • File uploads are stored in S3-compatible cloud storage with access controls

5. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access & Export � You can access your profile data through your settings. Community admins can export community data.
  • Edit & Delete � You can edit or delete your posts and update your profile at any time.
  • Email Preferences � You can manage notification preferences and unsubscribe from email digests and broadcasts using the unsubscribe link in every email.
  • Account Deletion � Contact us to request full account deletion. Community owners can delete their communities, which removes all associated content.
  • Cookies � Essential authentication cookies cannot be disabled while using the platform. You can clear them by logging out.

6. Children's Privacy

Outpost is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it.

7. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. By using Outpost, you consent to the transfer of information to countries that may have different data protection rules than your country of residence.

8. Third-Party Links & Embeds

Communities may contain links to third-party websites or embedded content. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites. Outpost communities can be embedded on external websites via iframe � the same privacy policy applies to embedded views.

9. AI Features

Outpost offers optional AI-powered features including:

  • Thread Summaries � Topic content may be sent to AI providers to generate summaries. No personal data is included beyond the post content.
  • Smart Moderation � Post content may be analyzed by AI for content moderation. This is configured by community admins.
  • Smart Tagging � Topic content may be analyzed to suggest relevant tags.

AI features can be enabled or disabled by community admins. When disabled, no content is sent to AI providers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated policy on the platform. Your continued use of Outpost after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
